Arts. Education. Humanities. Culture.
Our purpose and intent is to change the world for good through the Arts and Humanities, whether it's just our neck of the woods, or as far as the internet reaches. Everything we do is a celebration of who we are as citizens of planet Earth. Celebrating the things that make us unique alongside the things we have in common, preserving history and heritage for future generations, and making space for talent and creativity to entertain, enlighten and enrich, those are the pillars that guide our work each day.
Mississippi Cultural Crossroads, MCC, was founded in 1978, and we are still widely known today for our Quilting Programs, including the annual Pieces and Strings Quilt Show, and our children's programs such as Peanut Butter and Jelly Theater and I Ain't Lying magazine. In response to a changing community dynamic, we created new programs that cater to our growing senior citizen/retiree population, including Merry Heart Habits, a weekly senior wellness and arts enrichment program. We have two music festivals, a gospel music celebration and a celebration of the Blues, both extremely relevant to our community.
We believe in the adages, "Be the change you want to see in the world", and "A rising tide lifts all boats". One of the most powerful, effective tools for positive change in a community is the Arts. Moreover, if science, technology, engineering and mathematics dominate the world of the practical and the physical, the Humanities remind us of the immaterial, the spiritual, the imagination and the aesthetic.
At the end of the day, we all need a place to relax and enjoy being human, with other humans, laughing, learning, sharing --- and hoping that we are creating a better world for the future.
Our Mission: To create opportunities to cultivate artistic expression, collaboration and community engagement.
Vision: Breathing new life into communities through the Arts and Humanities.
We offer programs, exhibits, discussion series, community theater, folk and traditional arts like quilting, sewing, knitting and crochet, children's art, reading/literacy, and more. We create programs to serve many segments of the community including but not limited to seniors/retirees, children and families, veterans, social and civic organizations, and the general public.
