Helping save and protect the lives of homeless animals in Monroe County, PA.
Since Camp's opening in 2006, the organization's purpose is to serve and eliminate animal homelessness while preventing the suffering of all animals by striving to end cruelty to animals in any form. The shelter operated for 9 years as a foster based network before obtaining a property in 2015. We have found homes for thousands of homeless animals in Monroe County, PA since our opening in 2006.
The property we obtained was a stunning and peaceful 33-acre property formerly known as Camp Brainerd, a closed church summer camp that served the Pocono Mountains for years. The property consists of 2 large fish ponds with a dock, multiple field areas, walking paths and a freshwater stream. The new home of Camp Papillon was converted to better serve the animal needs. Summer cottages transformed into 3 kennel buildings, the house was converted into a free roaming cat house and the 4 bath houses were converted to our sanctuary area dedicated to longer term campers that require special care and training.
We have always been committed to both the emotional and physical well-being of our residents and have established an enrichment program that separates us from many other shelters in the area. We keep our residents emotionally happy through social play groups, televisions with various content playing for exposure while in the kennel, natural calming scents, multiple long 1 mile daily walks, long line runs in our large fields, summertime swimming in our creek and pond, doggy kiddie pools and cat play rooms with wall climbing and cat walks.
We are a 501c3 non-profit, no kill animal welfare organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty and suffering of all animals. We work tirelessly and with compassion to provide a safe haven to all animals in our care.
Camp Papillon receives no local, state or federal funding. Donations allow us to stay open and continue saving lives.
Our organization takes pride in placing unwanted animals in the right, permanent and responsible home. We assist with harder to adopt cases from other shelters because of our experience in working with more difficult cases. This means more animals saved, rehabilitated and alive.
